Frequently asked questions
What area are you including under 'Horsham'?
Any communities within the Horsham area are welcome to join so long as representatives are willing to play an active part. What has happened so far?
We have been meeting regularly since the summer of 2008. We have a constitution, a Steering Group and this website.
What is 'The Great Unleashing'?
The 'Unleashing' is the point at which we become an official Transition Initiative and celebrate with an action-packed launch. Ideally there will be a groundswell of local people eager to start doing something and willing to join working groups.
What kind of working groups will be formed?
Action working groups would cover areas such as Food, Transport, Waste, Health, Buildings, Education and Energy. Special Interest working groups could form to consider perhaps the arts and crafts, Transition Tales (storytelling as a way of visioning a low energy future), or Heart and Soul (the psychology of change). Neighbourhood groups could form to support each other in the transition towards a lower energy life. These are just some examples which have emerged from other Transition Initiatives. Horsham's groups will be uniquely derived from the needs we identify and the interest, enthusiasm and talents of the the people who volunteer.
What happens after 'The Great Unleashing'?
Once a minimum of four working groups have formed the original steering group will disband and a new co-ordination team will be formed from representatives of the working groups. The process should then have a life of its own, driven and directed by the energy of the people involved. New working groups can emerge as the need arises.
